Hawkshead is in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, England, in the South Lakeland district.
It is located approximately 4 miles southwest of Ambleside and about 5 miles northeast of Coniston.
The village lies close to the eastern shore of Lake Windermere, one of England’s largest lakes, and near the smaller Esthwaite Water, just south of the village.
Lakeland fells and farmland surround Hawkshead. The nearest major town is Kendal, roughly 20 miles to the southeast, while Carlisle is about 40 miles to the north.
