July 2nd – Ambleside Rush Bearing Ceremony
Every year on the first Saturday in July, Ambleside celebrates its Rushbearing Festival. This custom dates back to the days when the earthen floor of the church was strewn with rushes for warmth and cleanliness.

July 28th – Ambleside Traditional Sports
This is a day out not to be missed and is packed with things to do. For over 200 years locals have enjoyed watching and participating in this event. From Cumberland wrestling, guided races and hound trials, to track races and cycle races there is something here for everyone who enjoys a fun traditional day out. You will also find lots of refreshments, craft stalls and displays to be enjoyed.

Ambleside hosts this popular Summer Flower Show and Craft Fair, a paean to all things homemade and homegrown. Styling itself as “the weatherproof show”, the horticultural displays are all safely ensconced inside marquees, so the Great British summer cannot dampen proceedings.

August 11th – Rydal Sheep Dog Trials
This year, the 108th Vale of Rydal Sheepdog Trials and Hound Show will be held on Thursday 11th August 2011 in the spectacular setting of Rydal Park, by kind permission of Mr Richard Le Fleming. The Park is approximately a mile north of Ambleside in Cumbria – The Lake District. The Show is steeped in traditional but with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

November 19th – Ambleside Lantern Procession & Christmas Lights Switch on
Every year on the third Saturday in November, the people of Ambleside parade through the town at dusk, carrying hundreds of paper lanterns. Young and old turn out to witness this spectacular procession, as traffic is halted and Christmas street lights throughout the town centre are switched on as if by magic by Santa Claus.
